I'm always looking for ways to use money wisely. I have a purpose behind everything I use money for, whether the purpose is to support mission work, to provide for my family, or to go on vacation and spend extra time being refreshed and renewed by God. I'd love to dialogue about ways to use money in a way that glorifies God.

Last spring I discovered that I could change my cell phone plan without having to sign a two-year contract. My old plan included 1000 anytime minutes, and on average, I only used 300-400 minutes. Now I have a plan for 450 anytime minutes and I'm saving more than $20/month. If I'm concerned about the number of minutes I've used, I dial *4 (for Sprint) to check how many minutes I've used. Doing this does not use any minutes. If I don't have many minutes left, then I use a regular phone line to check my voicemail. There’s nothing like lost and found finding money in the pocket of clothing you haven't worn in years. This web site my mom just told me about is even better. It’s worth doing a quick search on http://www.missingmoney.com/ to see if you have any unclaimed property or money that is waiting for you. I didn’t find anything for myself, but Lauren’s relatives have a few records listed.

Many companies, especially those providing a service (cellular, internet, etc...) offer referral rewards if you get a friend to sign up. The idea isn’t to become a personal salesman for the company, but if you know a friend who is looking for a particular service, in many cases both of you would benefit from the referral. Here are few that I know of off-hand, but please feel free to pass along others by leaving a comment to this blog entry. By the way, I would really appreciate the extra cash so let me refer you if you need one of these products or services.

Sprint Nextel: the referrer gets a $40 Visa debit card. The referee gets a $25 Visa debit card.  Visit http://sprint.com/get25. You will need my mobile phone number which you can get from our “Contact Us” page. ING Direct Banking (from their web site): “If your friend opens an account with at least $250, we will also deposit a $25 bonus in their new account and a $10...
